Motivation is a process in which mind focus straight way to achieve the desired goal. Motivation is like a force which pushes the person to work for his/her aim with high level of commitment, continuous work on same thing made person unmotivated which is human behaviour.

  1. Maslow’s need  hierarchy theory of motivation                                                                                                                        Abraham Maslow states in his theory that a man will be motivated only when he is willing to fulfill his needs, once his needs of given level got satisfied, it will not motivate a man anymore. There is another level of need activated which motivate again to get satisfied, this theory is based on human needs. Maslow tells us about five level of needs in his theory:-                                             1. Psychological needs             2. Safety needs                               3. Social needs                           4. Esteem needs                           5. Self – Actualisation (short explanation, points are not in brief)

  2. Hertzberg’s two factor theory                                                              Generally this theory is based on job satisfaction not motivation, Frederick Herzberg classified this theory into two factors Hygiene factor and Motivating factor. When the person is not dissatisfied from the job then it is a hygiene factor, whereas motivating factor is needed to get sure about the employee’s satisfaction. In absence of hygiene factor motivating factor does not work, One more thing should be noted that opposite of “satisfaction is no satisfaction” and “dissatisfaction is no dissatisfaction”.

  3. McClelland’s theory of needs                                                              David McClelland states that we need three motivating drivers, which drives human behaviour and one of them dominate the behaviour also, The three motivators are; Achievement, Affiliation and power, he found difference in behavior between people who needs different motivator.

    Need for Achievement: Person who has high need for achievement perform better than who has low need. In other words a perso  n who has needs is highly motivated to do his/her task by applying own efforts than the person who don’t have need.                                                                                                                                 • Need for Affiliation: It is a different type of need, it is related to lovefeelings and belonging. Peoples who have high need for affiliation are more motivated by being engaged and accepted by other people in society.                                                                                                            • Need for power: It’s refelect in name already as it all about power, authority and control over other, person with high need for power wants to influence the people and make a change in life. He wants to control and lead in respective department as well as in life.
  4. McGregor theory of motivation                                                                                          Douglas McGregor classified his theory on the basis of two parts, one of the two parts is basically Negative, named as Theory and the other is basically positive, named as Theory Y, generally these parts are two distinct views of human being and the people with both view are exist.                                     • Theory x: People with this view are having lack of ambition, don’t like to take responsibilities and behave lazy side, they are self – centered and wants work to direct on others.                                                  • Theory Y:The positive side of human is always likable, people are motivated and wants to succeed in their own organization, taking responsibility becomes first priority and they have also need for achievement.

Vroom expectancy theory of motivation                                                    Victor Vroom founded this theory on the basis of people motivation, they will be motivated to exert high level of effort to improve performance, they believe that they are in relationship with efforts they put.

    The important keys in the expectancy theory of motivation are:                                                                                          1. Valence:Value or strength which is places on outcome/reward.                           2. Expectancy: It relates with efforts to performance.                                                                          3.Instrumentality: Performance relates to rewards.                                                                                                                                    Vroom’s motivation is express in an equation form:-                                                       Valence × Expectancy × Instrumentality
  6. Social motivation theory                                                                     This theory is based on the disorder in the human being called Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD). People who have ASD needs social motivation to conquer the world , they faces lots of problems and on recent findings says social motivation provides integrated picture of social motivation and evolutionary levels.

    Motivation is force which pushes man towards desired goal with high spirit and positivity. We need to be make sure that every individual in our organization/company is motivated. There are various Motivation theory that are found to understand the human behaviour that what motivates them.
